BIFMC Joins #GivingTuesday Movement November 17, 2016

#givingtuesday

Barrier Islands Free Medical Clinic will be a participating non-profit organization on #GivingTuesday, a viral fundraising campaign that occurs annually each Tuesday following Thanksgiving Day. This year, #GivingTuesday will take place on November 29, 2016. Supporters of BIFMC are encouraged to make an on-line donation to the Clinic to keep the uninsured community of Johns, James, and Wadmalaw Islands, who fall 200% below the federal poverty limit, covered in their healthcare needs.

The #GivingTuesday campaign, which is currently in its 5th year, has gained momentum on the heels of post-Thanksgiving events such as Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The day focuses exclusively on giving back to non-profit organizations, on both the local and national level, and is “fueled by the power of social media and collaboration,” according to the #GivingTuesday website.

“Since its inaugural year in 2012, #GivingTuesday has become a movement that celebrates and supports giving and philanthropy with events throughout the year and a growing catalog of resources,” the organization states.

Supporters are encouraged to donate in solidarity online on 11/29/16 via BIFMC’s secure online donation page. To pledge your support, share with friends, and receive a reminder of when and where to participate, you can also join BIFMC’s online Facebook Event, which will feature Clinic news and updates leading up to #GivingTuesday.

Barrier Islands Free Medical Clinic provides medical care to eligible patients, just like any family practitioner or internist – but it is free. We serve uninsured adults living at or below 200 % of the Federal poverty level who live or work on Johns, Wadmalaw or James Islands. You can follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
