Barrier Islands Free Medical Clinic (BIFMC), located at 3226 Maybank Highway on Johns Island, currently offers free health care services to uninsured adults who reside or work across the Barrier Islands and eligible connecting communities. Beginning in the Fall of 2024, BIFMC is pleased to announce that the Free Clinic will extend their services to include any uninsured adult who lives or works within the entire Tri-County area, in accordance with qualifying federal poverty level income guidelines.
At Barrier Islands Free Medical Clinic, we are committed to breaking down barriers to care. As we see a growing need across the Lowcounty to address the coverage gap and ensure that everyone in our community has access to the high quality care they deserve, we believe we have the resources and compassionate specialists and volunteers necessary to take on even more adults in need. As a major free clinic centrally located on Johns Island, we have 120 volunteers and are in a unique position to grow and meet the expanding healthcare needs of our patient community. With specialty programs including ophthalmology, dermatology, reproductive health and gynecology, cancer screenings, psychiatry, high risk disease management, neurology, ENT and more, we are confident that we can open our medical home to include those in need across the Tri-County, offering not just preventative primary care but critical screenings, vaccines, and life saving interventions across a wide spectrum of health needs.
The Clinic’s commitment to the Barrier Islands remains steadfast as we grow our vision of providing a free medical home to even more in our community without access to health care. We will continue to stand in the gap of health care inequity and offer free, high quality, compassionate medical services to those without health insurance, and we look forward to extending our hand as we are able in the future – all thanks to the generosity of our grantors, individual donors and volunteers.
It has long been our philosophy that everyone deserves the dignity of healthcare. We are grateful to continue to put this philosophy into action.
