Patient Stories

At Barrier Islands Free Medical Clinic, we consider health care to be a dignity that should be afforded to all - regardles of income. Hear what our patients have to say about the high quality care they receive at BIFMC.

Free health care for those without health insurance ensures the vitality of our community. Many of our patients serve as the backbone of the lowcountry. They work in local restaurants, hotels and shops; offer housekeeping and lawn services; build our homes and grow our local produce; and give care to our children and elderly across Charleston County. And yet many who live or work across the Barrier Islands or serve Charleston’s hospitality industry currently cannot afford health insurance.

At Barrier Islands Free Medical Clinic, we are able to provide free healthcare and ongoing primary care services to many of our uninsured residents and workers – thanks to the generosity of our donors and exceptional commitment of our volunteers.

Here are just a few stories from our patients who have benefited from their free healthcare at BIFMC, and why your donation matters.

“The clinic has made a difference in my life by providing the medical and lab work necessary for me to maintain a healthy lifestyle. “I have had diabetes my whole life and when I turned 18 I could no longer get Medicaid.  My job does not provide me with insurance. The clinic has allowed me to get the care and medications I need and I am so grateful. Thank you for being a supporter of BIFMC.“
